The End of the Book by Maya Pindyck

The End of the Book
Maya Pindyck

Once the dreamer
etched the date
into the book’s yellow spine

the book the village filled with waking hands

the dreams stopped coming.

It was the end of the book
even with two pages left
blank & blinking

white. The Virgin of the Rocks cover
gathered dust over time,
and the dreams, kissing in dark quarters,

died from distance
on the part of the dreamer
who filed the book away.
